This is an incredibly rare Range Rover Classic, upgraded to 570 S specification by renowned modifier Overfinch through 1989, costing in excess of £20k. More recently, the vehicle has undergone a near six-year strip down, rebuild, improvement and restoration programme costing over £40k - with work carried out by the likes of renowned Range Rover restorer Kingsley Cars, Jule Motors and T&M Garages.
As well as the 570 specification Sports V8 engine, it was fitted with a Stage II ride and handling setup, improved bushes, a larger fuel tank, and ventilated brakes. Under the bonnet now sits a recently rebuilt and uprated 5.7-litre V8 engine, producing around 400bhp at a cost of over £8k. The upgraded specification includes work on the car's engine by T&M Garages in Willenhall, which included fitting big-valve aluminium cylinder heads; a stroker kit comprising of a new crankshaft, rods and pistons; a new camshaft with modified timing gears and chains, as well as downdraft Brawler carburettors. Interior upgrades include door sound deadening, an Alpine CD DAB stereo head unit with Bluetooth and satellite navigation, a centre console and door card retrim in grey leather with custom Harris Tweed cloth detailing, and re-veneered wood in Grey Alegre.
The Caspian Blue paintwork is in generally excellent condition, having been subjected to a recent restoration and having covered very few miles since. Inside, the retrimmed and reconnolised cabin presents with light creasing on the leather, signs of use on the original controls, and a slight loss of the finish on the rear-view mirror, but overall looking very smart with the restoration skilfully retaining a degree of ‘patina’ while improving its cosmetic condition.
The latest service was carried out during 46,930 miles by Kingsley Cars. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change, along with a general service following on from the car’s extensive recent refurbishment. The restoration of the car began in 2016 with a mechanical overhaul at a cost of over £6k by Jule Motors in Coven, Staffordshire which included replacement of the water pump, suspension, brakes, anti-roll bars, an engine service, bespoke exhaust manifolds, various hoses and bushes, and a new carpet set fitted. Following this, work was commissioned at specialist engine builder T&M Garages in Willenhall to modernise and upgrade Overfinch’s GM engine, which added the custom engine parts detailed above and in the paperwork, at a cost of £8K – and it now produces 400bhp.
In September 2021, the car was passed over to marque specialist Kinglsey Cars to pull all of the works together and bring the car up to a very high standard, which included a body-off corrosion treatment and undersealing, as well as countless other jobs to bring the car up to a very high standard - paperwork included. The restoration programme work at Kingsley was completed in February 2023 at a cost of over £30k.
This Range Rover Classic is a rare and desirable period Overfinch 570 S conversion, with a 5.7-litre V8 and a Stage II handling and suspension upgrade, which has recently been put through a rigorous refresh and restoration programme, making it surely among the best examples of its type. It now boasts significantly increased power, but retains its period charm and ‘patina’. The car is ready to be driven, where it would make a charming and practical companion for any enthusiast of the marque on or off road, and is bound to delight with its notably uprated performance.
